Local Mold Inspectors Provide Expert Insight
When people find out they have a mold issue, one of their first questions involves some form of asking where it could have come from. In every instance, the simplified answer is the mold was a result of excess moisture, whether in the air or on a surface, which encouraged it to grow. Without moisture there is no chance for mold to grow.
Since we’re located in South Florida, it might seem difficult to avoid moisture. Many of our cities are coastal which exposes them to potential flooding and hurricane damage, and our climate is very humid. For these reasons, mold is more prevalent in our area than in many places nationwide.
Our company offers professional mold inspection services for businesses and individuals in Miami and the surrounding areas. We have the equipment, expertise and certification to help determine if your space has an issue, and if you do we can create a plan to eliminate it.
In the sections to follow, we will discuss a few ways moisture can enter a space and create an environment where mold can thrive. If you feel you could have an issue in your home or commercial space, we can provide certified testing.
Leaks
Many times mold growth is a result of a leak. As strange as it might sound, a small leak is often more dangerous than a larger leak. Leaks can occur in roof systems, in pipes between walls or in other places where they are hard to find. When moisture builds up, even with just a small dripping leak, mold can begin to grow in areas which are unseen. This presents a dangerous situation for a person’s health and the safety of the building. Larger leaks present a more obvious, but potentially more difficult problem, because larger portions of the structure will have to be dried out to limit mold growth.
Flooding
South Florida experiences large rain events regularly, and flooding can cause a significant amount of water to enter a structure. When a building floods, it’s very difficult to remove the water from every space affected. Even if visually you don’t see any more water, when building materials or porous substances get wet they are hard or impossible to dry out. Mold can thrive in these spaces because of the moisture levels, and flooding can cause a serious issue.
Humidity
Many people assume mold has to be visible for there to be an issue, but this isn’t always the case. Mold can thrive in the form of spores which are airborne, and for this to happen there has to be a great deal of moisture in the air. Many buildings are equipped with ventilation systems which are in place to control humidity, but if a ventilation system is inadequate for the structure or not functioning as intended then moisture can build up in the air and create an environment where mold can thrive.
If your structure has been exposed to excess moisture, it’s a good idea to conduct a mold test. To learn more about our services, browse our website or give us a call today.
