Mold can present itself in many ways, and professional testing is the best way to determine if a structure has a mold issue. Many people are not well versed in mold detection, and if your home or business has had a recent water intrusion event or if you notice visible mold then an inspection by a certified mold assessor is essential.
Our company is proud to offer mold assessment services for businesses and individuals in South Florida. We have a great deal of experience in our field and given the area’s warm and wet climate, mold is an issue for many people in our service area.
There are many steps involved in mold assessment, one of which is taking a sample of mold growth and testing it to determine the correct course of action. In the sections to follow, we will answer a few common questions about mold swab sampling and the role it plays in our inspection process.
Where are samples collected?
Mold is most commonly found in select areas of a home or business, and our technicians check the entire space to determine if mold is present. Physical inspection is only part of our process, as we also test the air inside a space, but collection of mold samples is done when visible mold is found. Some of the most common places we find samples of mold are near HVAC ducts, in bathrooms or kitchens, near pipes (especially when there has been a leak) and other areas which can be affected by excess moisture.
What does testing show?
The mold samples we collect are sent to our lab for professional testing. This testing process will show what type of mold is present, which can help determine the correct method for remediation. Even when mold isn’t visible, we still take surface samples and have them tested to help us determine if mold is present.
How long does mold testing take?
The mold inspection itself takes a few hours depending on the size of the structure we are inspecting. We can typically have the entire mold assessment report done within two to three business days, complete with full details on lab testing.
What happens if active mold is found?
Our report will use the data and photos we take from our physical inspection along with lab testing results to determine if there is an existing mold issue. The report also includes a detailed plan to remediate mold from the area. Remediation involves removing mold and other affected areas in such a way to reduce the possibility of the problem recurring. Our company performs testing and provides remediation recommendations, so it’s up to the property owner to find a qualified company to perform the remediation.
