Mold Air Quality Sampling FAQ

Mold is a serious issue which can affect a person’s health and the safety of a structure, especially in our warm, humid climate in South Florida. If your home or business has been exposed to water through a leak, flood, increased indoor humidity or other water intrusion event, mold testing can help determine if there is an issue.

Our team is made up of local experts who are experienced and certified in mold assessment. We are happy to offer this valuable service to individuals and businesses in our area, and we have the skills and tools to give you the most accurate results possible regarding the presence of mold.

There are a few key steps we take when assessing a property for the presence of mold, and one of them is sampling and testing the air inside the structure. In the sections to follow, we will answer a few common questions about this important step in the mold assessment process.

Is mold growth always visible?

One common misconception people have regarding mold involves its appearance. Many people think mold only exists in the form of visible growth, but this is not the case. In many instances, mold spores can thrive as airborne particles, and these substances can be just as negatively impactful to health as the visible mold you can see growing on a surface. This is why taking samples of air and having them lab tested is essential for us to get the entire picture of a structure which could have a mold issue.

What factors contribute to airborne mold?

Moisture is always essential for mold to be present in any form. When a building has a water intrusion event such as a leak or flood, or has a problem with excess humidity, mold can form and continue to grow until the moisture issue is removed. In the case of airborne mold, the biggest contributing factor is the level of humidity in the air. While many homes and businesses have ventilation systems which keep humidity levels at a reasonable level, issues can arise when they become inoperable or if the ventilation isn’t sufficient for the space.

How does the inspection/sampling process work?

Our team of trained, certified technicians use a few key methods to determine the amount and species of mold present in a space. We do a thorough physical inspection and document everything we see with detailed notes and photos, and we also take samples of surface material and air samples. These samples are sent to be tested, and when the results are in we compile our findings in a detailed report. This report will explain the level of mold in your space, and outline our recommendations for remediation if mold is present.

If you are in South Florida, including the cities of Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Pompano Beach, Miami and the surrounding areas, we can help with any mold testing needs.
